Government of Canada supports Indigenous youth and new young Canadians to prepare to join the workforce

WINNIPEG, April 25, 2019 /CNW/ - Indigenous Peoples represent the fastest-growing segment of the Canadian population and are an important part of Canada's economic prosperity.   Indigenous youth and young new Canadians represent a significant component of the future workforce in Winnipeg.

Today, Kevin Lamoureux, Member of Parliament for Winnipeg North, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD), announced $211,750 in funding toward the Winnipeg Aboriginal Sport and Recreation Association Inc. (WASAC) to support Indigenous and youth skills development in Winnipeg.

The economic benefits of this program include preparing 120 young people to join the workforce and the creation of 100 jobs for Indigenous and new Canadian youth.

Canada's Innovation and Skills Plan aims to build an economy in which Canadians have access to high-quality jobs and Canadian businesses are well-placed to participate in a rapidly evolving and competitive global marketplace.
