/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Edmonton ceremony continues cross-Canada commemoration of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy/



EDMONTON, April 18, 2019 /CNW/ - Veterans and honoured guests will mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. The event will include a departure ceremony as part of the commemorative journey across Canada to Halifax. At stops across the country, from Vancouver to Halifax, trains will carry combat boots?as symbols of the many Canadians who took a similar journey during the Second World War to serve our country. Accompanying ceremonies will commemorate the Canadians who sacrificed so much to defend peace and freedom during the conflict.

"On April 24, 2019, Veterans Affairs Canada is hosting a ceremony at Jefferson Armoury in Edmonton at 15:00 MDT. Veterans, their families, youth and the general public are invited to attend the event to commemorate D-Day and the Battle of Normandy."

As well as the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, 2019 marks the 5th anniversary of the end of Canada's Mission in Afghanistan, and the 75th anniversaries of the Battle of the Scheldt and the Italian Campaign during the Second World War.
