Media Advisory - The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) meeting in St. John's, Newfoundland, April 28 - May 3, 2019
OTTAWA, April 18, 2019 /CNW/ - The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) meets twice a year to review the status of wildlife species that have been identified as potentially being at risk of extinction from Canada, as they are mandated to do under the federal Species at Risk Act (SARA).
The next meeting will take place in St. John's, Newfoundland, from April 28 ? May 3, 2019. COSEWIC will determine the status of 22 Canadian wildlife species. Among these will be two of the world's largest species (Fin and Sei Whales), a member of one of the world's most threatened groups (Shortfin Mako shark), and one of only five mammals endemic to Canada (Vancouver Island Marmot).
Following the meeting, a press release will be issued that summarizes the results of the discussions, highlighting ongoing Canadian conservation challenges and successful conservation actions.
