Innovative Environmental Intelligence Solution Deploys Across Canada

EDMONTON, Alberta, March 12, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Campbell Scientific (Canada) Corp. (CSC) was awarded by the Government of Canada's Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP), as a partner in commercialization efforts of new technologies and services, to deploy their environmental intelligence software as a service solution (SaaS), WeatherBrain, at Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) surface weather sites across Canada.

WeatherBrain is a SaaS solution from Campbell Scientific that provides users real-time weather-related metrics (i.e., air temperature, surface temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, etc.) via a web portal. The portal is a decision guidance platform that helps users easily visualize massive amounts of raw environmental sensor data into easy to consume graphs and charts. Raw data is visualized in real-time in a form that is easy to understand and decipher, and users are provided with a clear framework and process for better field decision making. WeatherBrain stations will be installed at 39 geographically and meteorologically diverse sites (among them 24 ECCC surface weathers sites) across Canada and will send all data to the WeatherBrain portal.

Amongst other objectives, this project will seek to compare the performance of WeatherBrain to the ECCC automatic weather stations and provide data to assess the viability of WeatherBrain as an alternative towards the modernization of the Co-operative (volunteer) Climate Network (CCN) in Canada. It will also test the robustness of WeatherBrain as a turnkey solution for local operators and forecasters that require geo-relevant environmental measurement systems in Canadian environments where measurements are not being made today.

The BCIP is an initiative launched as part of the Government of Canada's commitment to promote Canada's economic growth as announced in Budget 2010. Under the BCIP, innovators are matched with a federal government department to participate in the testing of an innovation. Through a competitive process, WeatherBrain was chosen based on its innovation and potential positive impact in the field of environmental monitoring.

About Campbell Scientific (Canada) Corp.: Campbell Scientific Canada has been a provider of accurate environmental intelligence for 40 years. The Edmonton-based company is an industry leader in system design, data analytics, service, support, integration, calibration, and training. With WeatherBrain, Campbell Scientific Canada is furthering its mission to provide the best measurements possible by offering environmental decision support to its customers.
