FlexJobs Names 10 Surprising and Fast-Growing Remote Career Categories

While remote work exists across career fields, it is more prevalent in some than in others. With that in mind, FlexJobs analyzed over 50 career categories in its database, comparing the number of remote jobs posted January 1, 2018 to the number of remote jobs posted December 1, 2018, to determine which surprising remote career categories have grown at a high rate during the last year.

"Just a few short years ago, working from home may have seemed out of reach within industries outside of data entry, customer service, or sales, but as this diverse list of career categories demonstrates, today that is most certainly not the case," said Sara Sutton, founder and CEO of FlexJobs. Remote job listings have grown more than 50% since January 1, 2018 in the following 10 remote job categories that are not usually associated with remote work. They are ordered from highest growth to least. A "remote job" is defined as a professional-level job that allows the worker to work from home either entirely or part of the time. Remote jobs are also known as telecommuting jobs, virtual jobs, at-home jobs, and other similar names.

1. Math & Economics - Sample math and economics remote job titles include: actuarial analyst, economics faculty member, mathematical programmer, data scientist, high school math teacher.

2. Insurance - Sample insurance remote job titles include: loss control specialist, nurse case manager, premium auditor, underwriting manager, and claims representative.

3. Nonprofit & Philanthropy - Sample nonprofit and philanthropy remote job titles: include senior national fundraising director, program director, policy manager, major gifts officer, and partnerships manager

4. Mortgage & Real Estate - Sample mortgage and real estate remote job titles: include senior loan officer, director of sales, district manager, real estate content producer, and real estate valuation manager.

1. Employment scams have doubled just in the last year.
