The 16-page report, titled "Restored," gives readers a behind-the-scenes look at how planning, investment in infrastructure, teamwork and good old-fashioned grit contributed to the utility's effective restoration of power in Kissimmee following Hurricane Irma.
The first Category 5 hurricane of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season, Irma caused widespread and catastrophic damage, particularly in the northeastern Caribbean and across the peninsula of Florida.
Over 7.7 million homes and businesses in Florida, including 38,000 KUA customers, were without power at some point during the storm ? approximately 73% of electrical customers in the state.
Following Irma, the electric power industry mobilized the largest power restoration effort in U.S. history.
Other KUA highlights for 2017:
Operating revenues grew by 2.4 percent to $188.1 million from $183.7 in 2016.
Operating expenses increased by 3.2 percent to $170.1 million from $164.8 million in 2016.
Assets exceeded liabilities by $238.1 million (net position).
Megawatt-hour sales totaled 1,509,749, down 0.4 percent.
