ST. LOUIS, Dec. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- TymeMachine is excited to host the first Community Coding Competition for students between the ages of 8 and 18, sponsored by Ladue Education Foundation & Alumni Association.
Codefest 2019 will take place March 30th, 2019 from 9:00 AM to Noon at Location TBD.
TymeMachine is a nonprofit organization that brings the latest technology to our children and involves them with hands on interdisciplinary STEM learning opportunities to grow their interest in careers that will be in high demand in the future.
We are hoping to instill in students the love for technology by helping them grow comfortable with coding. While also contributing to our community.
Students will create the projects based on the St. Louis Community under three different categories: Games, Digital Story and Art & Animation.
There are two entry levels Junior (8 - 12) and Senior (13 - 18). Students will use either Scratch or Python to create the project and participate in an on-the-spot coding challenge.
Make a scratch quiz game about your community asking hard questions.
Create a text-based adventure game that takes players on a adventure around your town or school.
Digital Story
Create a story about your community using Scratch, Python
Ideas!
Create a story with the locality being your school or playground.
Create a story with information about food, animals and things to be found in your local area.
Art and Animations
Create a piece of digital art or animation using Scratch or Python.
Ideas!
Use Scratch to draw a piece of art representing your Community.
Coding an animation that will show a scene from your town using Python.
Important dates of the Codefest
Registration: Jan. 31, 2019 by 8:00 PM
Entry Submission: March 15, 2019 8:00 PM
Competition: March 30, 2019
Award ceremony: March 30, 2019
How to prepare for competition?
Write a short paragraph about your project and how it represents your community. We will ask you to submit this in the online submission form as part of the Design Plan.
You need to tell us your name, age, which school you go to, parent's name, address and phone number while registering for the competition.
We love to share the competition entries we receive, so we need to make sure we have the right permissions. We'll ask you to confirm this on the submission form.
You will need to select one of the three competition categories and the entry level you are planning to register for. You can register for only one category.
If you are choosing Python
Trinket at https://trinket.io At the end of the competition the students will submit the link to their project.
Make sure you have a Trinket Account created and approved by your parent before the competition date.
If your choice is Scratch
Scratch Online Editor at https://scratch.mit.edu/ At the end of the competition the students will submit the link to their project.

On the Competition Day
Participant are required to bring their own computer. Only participants are allowed in the competition area. Parents must drop them off and may join later for lunch and award ceremony.

COMPETITION TIME 9:30 AM to Noon
Challenge
Participants will be given a challenge to solve on the day of the competition. They will be given a challenge specific to their age group and their coding tool. They will need to solve that challenge within two hours and submit it for competition.
Presentation
Participants will be presenting their projects in front of the judges for 5 minutes.
Award Ceremony 12:00 to 2:00 PM
Parents and guest are welcome in the Lunch and Award ceremony. Ticket price is $20 / person. Lunches for participants are free.
