Report: Long-term Career Satisfaction can be Measured, Predicted

There is a fundamental difficulty when it comes to choosing a satisfying career - how can one know they will enjoy a career before they try it? Sokanu assesses work history and psychometric data from over one million people annually, which allows them to isolate specific qualities that predict whether or not someone is likely to be satisfied with their career.

Historically, career tests have relied on broad and crude factors such as interest in healthcare signaling a match with a career like nursing. It turns out that certain obliquely related factors may be fundamental to long-term satisfaction in a career. In the case of nursing, people that rated wanting to 'entertain an audience' highly also reported high satisfaction in their careers as nurses.

The report details how factors which predict a person's long-term career satisfaction can be discovered, using data collected from people who have real-world experience within careers. "The inherent difficulty in selecting a career is that our expectations of a career are formed mostly by pop culture, and so the reality often only hits you when it feels like it's too late," says Sokanu's chief product officer, Saeid Fard.
