The Software Guild Launches New Partnership with University of Delaware's Division of Professional and Continuing Studies, Expands Northeast U.S. Region

NEWARK, Del., Dec. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Software Guild will partner with the University of Delaware's Division of Professional and Continuing Studies (UD PCS) to bring its flexible coding education model to the northeast region of the United States. The bootcamps enable students to complete 10-to-14-month online coding programs in which they will earn badges indicating competency in certain .NET/C# or Java web development skills.

Innovative education programs are becoming more prevalent, and institutions recognize the need to meet the needs of today's students and the job market. The U.S. Department of Labor Statistics estimates that employment for software developers will grow 17 percent by the year 2024. Students that participate in and complete the badge program will be better prepared to jumpstart their careers in this growing, but competitive, labor market.

The learn-at-your-own-pace curriculum allows for the flexibility and accessibility important to today's students, many of whom hold jobs while studying. Students can earn badges in succession until completing the program or gain badges individually based on their respective interests or schedules. The bootcamps are open to any adult interested in pursuing a coding career.

"Software development and IT skills are prevalent in every industry, across large corporations to independently owned start-ups," said Rachel McGalliard, senior vice president of operations and general manager of The Software Guild. "Jobs in the field are opening at such a rapid pace that they can no longer be considered the jobs of tomorrow; they are the jobs of today."

Average tech industry wages in the state of Delaware are more than $100,000, while the average annual salary of non-tech jobs is roughly half that amount at just over $55,000.

"We at UD PCS recognize the value of continuing education, lifelong learning, and alternative credentials, so we strive to offer innovative programs that enable learners to build real-world, in-demand skills to help further their careers," said Shaun Sutherell, assistant director, business development & program management of UD PCS.

Graduates of the Software Guild's on-the-ground programs in Louisville and Minneapolis experience an in-field job placement rate of more than 90 percent within six months of completing the program, according to the most recent data from the Council on Integrity in Results Reporting, of which The Software Guild is a founding member.

These results inspired The Software Guild to connect more students with skills that can enhance their education and make them more marketable. As a result, the boot camp now facilitates 10-to-14-month online programs in partnership with 10 universities across the country.

In addition to coding experience and a high job-placement rate, students will have access to The Guild's growing employer network of more than 450 companies, including Hallmark, Humana and UPS.
