Increased Demand for Nurses Brings Nightingale College's Nursing Programs to Eight New States

SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Nightingale College is excited to announce the authorization to offer nursing education in eight new states, in addition to current operations in Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. The College is newly authorized to offer the ADN and BDN programs in South Dakota, Iowa, Colorado, Kansas, Vermont, North Carolina and Florida, and the BDN Program in Nevada.

"We are very excited to begin the expansion process into so many new states at this time," said Senior Manager of Partnerships, Blake Halladay. "As the nursing shortage continues to worsen in rural areas, the need for new innovative solutions is felt more than ever. Nightingale College's Dedicated Distance Cohort (DDC) education model is perfectly positioned to meet the unique fluctuating demands for new nurses in rural communities and we are looking forward to working with many new partners in these great states."

With Nightingale's innovative DDC model, learners complete all classroom instruction online while completing experiential learning in a partner health care facility close to where they live. By allowing nurses to stay in their hometown for education, Nightingale College is providing health care institutions in medically underserved areas with homegrown nurses. There are currently ten DDCs throughout Utah, Idaho and Wyoming offering both the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BDN) Programs.

Chyleen Tucker, regional manager over the Idaho DDCs, said, "It has been exciting to see our Nightingale graduates working in the hospitals in the region. This program gives LPNs another avenue to achieve their RN license and opens the door for others in the area who were never able to get into the traditional nursing programs."

In order to recognize this mission, Nightingale will have to expand as the nursing industry expands. The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the registered nursing industry will grow 15 percent in the next 10 years due to an aging population, an increase in preventative care, and a growing number of chronic condition cases.

To prevent widening of the nursing shortage gap within the industry growth, Nightingale College is expanding online education and partner relations with an increased number of DDCs. The first step in increasing the DDC numbers are state authorizations that allow us to offer our programs in these states.

Nightingale College is looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that these new state authorizations will bring, and hopes that through this expansion, community health in these states will be improved.
