Florida Hospital and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Take on Breast Cancer


TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 19, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Florida Hospital, soon to be AdventHealth, the Exclusive Hospital of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and title sponsor of AdventHealth Training Center, is excited once again to be part of the Sixth Annual Treasure Chests 5K + Fun Run, powered by Jabil. The race celebrates breast cancer survivors and benefits breast cancer research and patient services in Tampa Bay.

"The Treasure Chests 5K has evolved into one of the Tampa Bay area's premier family-friendly running events and this year's edition should be the biggest and best yet," said Buccaneers Chief Operating Officer Brian Ford. "The race, followed by our game against the Cleveland Browns that same afternoon, makes for a great day focused on recognizing survivors and supporting breast cancer research. We are thrilled to once again team up with our partners at Florida Hospital, soon to be AdventHealth, as we strive to make a real impact in the fight against breast cancer."

This year's race is Sunday, October 21, and will start and finish at the Buccaneers' indoor practice facility at the AdventHealth Training Center. The race begins at 7:30 a.m. and includes a 5K and 1-mile Fun Run. Thousands of participants are expected, and all racers will be invited to the Breast Cancer Awareness Game that same day to watch the Bucs take on the Cleveland Browns at Raymond James Stadium.

One of this year's Honorary Race Starters will be Florida Hospital breast cancer patient, Carol Henderson, a three-time survivor currently living with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Carol, a 55-year-old wife and mom from Tampa, FL, was first diagnosed in 2009. After surgery and treatment, Carol was in remission until a recurrence in 2015 and a diagnosis again this year. Carol has endured over two dozen surgeries, 90 radiation treatments and is currently in chemotherapy treatment.

In addition to her status as the Honorary Race Starter, Florida Hospital will also host Carol at the Breast Cancer Awareness Game on Sunday, October 21, where she'll receive pre-game VIP access and pirate ship passes. Carol will also be a recognized breast cancer survivor on the field during the game.
