Suffolk County District Attorney Candidate Responds to Past Allegations

BOSTON, Oct. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Recently, the intimate details of my divorce were written about in the press.

First, I would like to apologize to all of my supporters and potential constituents for any difficulty this may have caused you, or to question my integrity as a man who works and lives shoulder to shoulder with the vital women of our community.

I simply ask for discretion in making a conclusive judgment of my character based on this brief interpretation of events that happened during a tumultuous period of my life while a marriage was dissolving.

No one gets married seeking a divorce. When our marriage began to dissolve, there was a period of time where I felt lost, angry and hurt. During a divorce, many couples suffer arguments where they say and do things out of agonizing emotions, not rational thought. But that does not excuse my behavior.

Did I do things I regret in this situation? Absolutely. Were things done by both parties during this divorce that we'd both take back and apologize for? Absolutely.

This divorce was without question one of the lowest periods in my life. Once we were out of the emotional wreckage of the immediate situation we were able to see our situation with clarity; this includes using allegations as a weapon to attack the other. This is why no criminal charges were filed and there is no record of domestic violence on my behalf. I may have regrettably resorted to anger during this situation, but I never hit my former spouse. We have now become amiable and have moved on with our lives without animosity or ill-will towards each other.

Communication is important in my personal relationships and professional career. As Suffolk County District Attorney, I understand things can come to a boiling point pretty quickly when dealing with situations involving domestic violence. It's important that both parties of an intimate relationship learn how to express themselves without violence or by resorting to drugs and alcohol to escape reality. I fully support victims of domestic violence and understand how quickly a situation can escalate. Recovery and reconciliation are vital for domestic violence situations that can often intensify without external intervention.

I have learned from my past mistakes. While at the end of the day I am human, no one should question my ability to manage my reaction to dynamic and intense situations or my ability to consistently make judgments on domestic violence cases or violence against women from this situation.

I take full responsibility for my actions. However, this intense period of my life is not a complete view of who I am, in my personal or professional life. This was a moment of intense pain and raw emotions that are not easy to illustrate in the court of public opinion. I apologize to anyone who feels disappointed by this unfortunate situation and assure you I have complete integrity as a representative of the judicial system for each and every member of our community.
