California Women Are Invigorated in the Fight for Gender Equity in Politics After Kavanaugh Vote - Fund Her Event Tuesday Will Feature Progressive Women Candidates

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As Judge Brett Kavanaugh takes his seat on the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday, women leaders in California will meet in San Francisco to further their fight for gender equity in the Statehouse and in the Boardroom.

Fund Her will hold a lunch discussion Tuesday, October 9th, 12:00 pm PT-1:30pm PT, at the offices of Farella Braun + Martel LLP, 235 Montgomery St., 17th Floor, San Francisco.

Speakers:
Cottie Petrie-Norris, Fund Her-endorsed candidate for Assembly District 74, Orange County

Christy Smith, Fund Her-endorsed candidate for Assembly District 38, Santa Clarita

CA State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, author of the landmark legislation guaranteeing that at least 1 women is on every corporate board in the state

Fund Her, a one-of-a-kind political action committee dedicated to achieving gender equity in California politics, is supporting 14 progressive women candidates in the November election. The group has already helped four women win election to the California legislature.

Fund Her founder, Valerie McGinty, says, "If California is going to continue to be a beacon of hope, to thrive as the world's fifth largest economy, and to drive the progressive policy of this nation, then we must elect progressive women to lead the way. Fund Her is here to do that."

Senator Jackson puts it this way, "With all eyes on California to lead at a time when our nation as a whole is moving backwards, it is more important than ever to elect strong progressive women who share our values for a better and brighter future for our state and nation."

Currently women make up just 25 percent of the California legislature. No woman has ever held the position of Lt. Governor or Governor in California. Fund Her is supporting the candidacy of Eleni Kounalakis for Lt. Governor.

About Fund Her
The political action committee was founded in 2017. Its goal is to achieve gender equity in the California Statehouse within 10 years. Fund Her provides the missing piece: financial support to ensure progressive, accomplished women are well-positioned to win. Four of California's newest state legislators are progressive women who were supported by Fund Her. The group had eleven candidates on the ballot in California's June primary and ten of those are on the ballot again in the upcoming general election. That's a 91 percent success rate.
