AFGE Endorses West Virginia's Richard Ojeda for Congress

WASHINGTON, Aug. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Richard Ojeda for the U.S. House of Representatives for West Virginia's 3rd Congressional District.

The American Federation of Government Employees, the largest union representing federal workers, has endorsed Richard Ojeda for the U.S. House of Representatives for West Virginia's 3rd Congressional District.

"From the Iraqi battlefield to the West Virginia Senate, Richard Ojeda has devoted his career to public service," AFGE District 4 National Vice President Dan Doyle said.

"As federal employees' workplace rights and protections come under attack by politicians who are hostile to working people and organized labor, we need to send more allies like Richard Ojeda to Washington to stand up for America's workers," Doyle said.

"Richard recently joined with tens of thousands of AFGE members and allies who wore red in opposition to the administration's democracy-busting executive orders, and he has spent hours talking to AFGE members about the work they do in support of our country. Richard Ojeda stands with AFGE and the federal workers who keep us safe, care for our veterans, and serve working-class families in southern West Virginia and across the country," Doyle said.

Nearly 24,000 federal employees live in West Virginia ? caring for veterans, supporting the military, keeping dangerous criminals safely behind bars, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time. There are about 10,600 active and retired federal employees in the 3rd Congressional District.

"From Beckley to Huntington, members of the American Federation of Government Employees provide an invaluable service to southern West Virginians," Ojeda said. "At the Federal Corrections Institution in Beckley, men and women put themselves at risk to keep the wolves at bay. At the VA hospital in Huntington, your members work to put veterans like me back together when they come home from combat. On behalf of me and my family, thank you for your endorsement and thank you for what you do."

AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 4 represents nearly 48,000 federal employees in Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
