AFGE Endorses Michigan's Gretchen Driskell for Congress


WASHINGTON, July 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Gretchen Driskell for the U.S. House of Representatives for Michigan's 7th Congressional District.

The American Federation of Government Employees, the nation's largest federal employee union, has endorsed Gretchen Driskell for the U.S. House of Representatives for Michigan's 7th Congressional District.

"Gretchen Driskell has a proven track record of fighting for working families at the state and local level in Michigan, and now is the right time for her to take the fight to Washington," AFGE District 7 National Vice President Dorothy James said.

"Gretchen Driskell will work tirelessly to strengthen Social Security and Medicare, including making sure these agencies have the staff necessary to get the work done for the growing number of retiring baby boomers.

"Gretchen also comes from a military background and understands the importance of the Department of Veterans Affairs to veterans. She will stand steadfastly opposed to further privatization of the VA."

Nearly 53,000 federal employees live in Michigan ? supporting the military, caring for veterans, ensuring the safety of the flying public, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time. There are about 8,800 current and retired federal workers in the 7th Congressional District.

AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 7 has nearly 20,000 dues-paying members in Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
