This year's Cal/OSHA Summit provided California employers and safety professionals with cutting-edge developments on new regulations, compliance strategies and management tactics. Attorneys Karen Capasso and Christopher Romero presented a 90-minute workshop on "Returning Employees Back to Work Swiftly and Safely; Strategies for Managing Fitness for Duty Assessments and Light-Duty Accommodations under ADA/FEHA."

Capasso and Romero's workshop instructed business owners on the best practices for engaging in the interactive process with employees to identify work restrictions and reasonable accommodations for injured or recently injured employees. Employees often go on leave due to an injury, but business owners do not know how to return them to work under various circumstances. Many employers took this opportunity to ask Capasso and Romero questions, gathering clarification on how the lessons of the workshop could be applied to their hypothetical situations.

Additionally, Capasso and Romero presented a skit that imitated an incorrectly held interactive process meeting, encouraging the audience to identify all the wrong steps that were taken. Once the workshop and skit concluded, one audience member from the large crowd approached Capasso, commenting on the pair's great energy.
