Wavelengths Recovery Sponsors 'Chasing the Dragon - Opioid Awareness Community Event'

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Oct. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Wavelengths Recovery was a proud sponsor of "Chasing the Dragon - Opioid Awareness Community Event" held on Oct. 18. This event was held at the City National Grove of Anaheim. Many members of the treatment community were in attendance along with Mayor Tom Tait of Anaheim, The Orange County Re-Entry Partnership (OCREP), and executive staff from the FBI.

This event featured a viewing of the FBI's documentary, Chasing the Dragon. The documentary touched on several concerns of the opioid addiction crisis and brought to light personal struggles people face when trying to combat their addiction.

The documentary was followed by a Q&A segment where Tait emphasized the importance of opioid awareness and discussions in our community. Orange County drug and alcohol deaths have skyrocketed 82 percent since the millennium and hospitalizations cost more than $100 million a year, according to a major new OC Health Care Agency report. During 2013-2015, the county averaged about 5,500 drug and alcohol hospitalizations each year and 700 deaths annually from substance abuse. (OC Register).

This event (the first of its kind in Orange County) was successful in bringing members of the community, service providers, law enforcement, and educators together to help focus on the substance abuse problem challenging many residents of Orange County.

Wavelengths had the opportunity to meet face to face with the attendees and inform them of our services. As a partner with the Huntington Beach Police Department Homeless Task Force and Drug Free Anaheim, Wavelengths is dedicated to helping Orange County combat the addictions that plague the community.
