PA Gaming Control Board Reports Decline of 2% in Slot Machine Revenue during 2016/2017 Fiscal Year

HARRISBURG, Pa., July 6, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board today reported that slot machine revenue declined 2.2% during the recently completed 2016/2017 state fiscal year compared to the previous fiscal year.

The findings were part of a report posted on the Board's web site that provides monthly revenue figures for all 12 of the Commonwealth's casinos.

Slot machine revenue was down in 10 of the 12 months during the fiscal year, with a 2016/2017 total of $2,336,152,508 compared to $2,388,658,549 during the 2015/2016 fiscal year. Tax revenue produced through slot machine play during the 2016/2017 Fiscal Year totaled $1,236,670,146*.

The Board notes that these figures reflect just slot machine revenue and not total gaming revenue that includes table games.  The Board will provide those figures later this month when it publishes its June 2017 and Fiscal Year 2016/2017 revenue report for table games.

To date, since the opening of the first casino in November of 2006, revenue from slot machine play has totaled $22.4 billion resulting in a tax generation of $12.1 billion. 

Below is a comparison of the statewide slot machine revenue for each Fiscal Year since casinos opened in Pennsylvania:

*Tax revenue reflected in this news release does not include approximately $434 million of Local Share Assessment "true-ups" that are assessed to assure that promised revenue per the Gaming Act is disbursed to the communities that host a casino. The addition of the "true-up" tax brings total tax revenue from slot machines to $12.5 billion. Tax revenue figures reflect amounts generated prior to any adjustments by the PA Department of Revenue

The Board is also providing year-over-year slot machine gross revenue comparisons for each casino for the 2016/2017 and 2015/2016 fiscal years:

Finally, the report on the Board web site also provides total and casino-by-casino monthly slot machine revenue for June 2017. During the month of June, the 12 casinos generated $188,520,750 in gross revenue, slightly less than the $189,976,690 generated in June 2016.

The average number of operating slot machines this June at the 12 casinos was 25,685 compared to 26,634 in June of last year.
