Ford, Leving, HFS to Host Hearing to Review DNA Clauses and Clarify Child Support Processes

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., May 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In an effort to ensure high qualities of life for children in Illinois while promoting fairness in the child support system, State Rep. La Shawn Ford, D-Chicago, Fathers' Rights attorney, Jeffery Leving, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services and the House Restorative Justice Committee will hold an official hearing on child support laws and nuances. The hearing will take place Thursday, May 25 at 3 p.m. in Room C-1 in the Stratton Building in Springfield, IL.

"I continue to hear from many families about the unfair child support laws in Illinois and they are demanding change," said Ford. "In certain cases in Illinois, a man is deemed responsible for paying child support even though DNA testing shows that he is not the father. Nuances in the law like this must be reviewed for the best interest of the families of our state."
