Department of State Makes Proceedings of Pennsylvania's 58th Electoral College Available Online
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 10, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A full record of the proceedings of the 58th Electoral College in Pennsylvania is available on the Department of State website, Secretary of State Pedro A. Cortés announced today. This marks the first time that the Electoral College Journal and accompanying video have been available online.
"Each time the Electoral College convenes, it becomes an important part of not only Pennsylvania history, but also of our nation's history," Secretary Cortés said. "So, it is fitting that the public should have convenient access to both visual and written records of that day."
The online records include the "Journal of the Proceedings of the 58th Pennsylvania Electoral College," as well as a 73-minute video of the ceremony, held in December 2016 in the chamber of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
The Electoral College is a group of citizens, known as electors, appointed by the voters in each state to cast votes for the president and vice president of the United States on behalf of the state's citizens.
On December 19, 2016, Pennsylvania's 20 electors gathered in Harrisburg and cast the commonwealth's electoral votes for Donald J. Trump as president and Michael R. Pence as vice president.
