One of Florida's Largest Adult Communities Gives Furloughed Workers a Helping Hand

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., Jan. 18, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Century Village East, one of the largest adult residential communities in the state of Florida, announced today it is taking steps to help employees of the Federal government affected by the shutdown.

Century Village East is one of the most renowned active-adult 55+, condominium communities in the Country. It is located in Deerfield Beach, Florida. It includes a 145,000 square foot clubhouse offering recreational, entertainment, educational and social activities available to residents. There are 8,508 total condominium units in the Village and it is home to as many as 16,000 residents.

The Master Management Board of Directors announced they will allow all residents who are Federal government employees not being paid due to the shutdown to skip paying dues until they are back to work.  The Board also said they will permanently waive all late fees no matter how long the shutdown lasts.

Each resident of Century Village East pays $127 per month for security, infrastructure, television, water service, transportation, overall maintenance and repair of the Village, as well as other services.

"I believe this is the humane thing for us to do," said Eli Okun, President of the Board.  "We have people who live in our Village that are affected by the shutdown and haven't gotten paid in the last pay period.  I think that we should be showing support for them."

Many residents of Century Village East, located in Deerfield Beach, Florida live on fixed incomes.  In addition, many residents live paycheck-to-paycheck and are not able to meet expenses if there is a delay in income.

Larger than many cities, Century Village East includes over 8,500 condominiums and is home to as many as 16,000 residents.
