Students, School Leaders, and Policymakers to Celebrate National School Choice Week in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Maine, Jan. 16, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Students, teachers, and school leaders from Maine's charter and magnet schools will join policymakers on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the State House's Hall of Flags for a school choice celebration.

This event, which will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., will draw attention to educational options in Maine. A press conference will begin at 11 a.m. and is the best time for members of the media to cover this event.

This event is planned to coincide with the history-making celebration of National School Choice Week 2019, which will feature more than 40,000 school choice events across all 50 states.

In Maine, tuition-free district, charter, and magnet public schools are available to families within the public school system, and the rally's organizers hope to draw more attention to these education options.

"Maine Association for Charter Schools (MACS) is pleased to celebrate National School Choice Week and recognize the importance of every child in Maine having an accessible and appropriate school option," said Roger Brainerd, executive director of MACS. "During School Choice Week, MACS helps policymakers understand new forms of public education by introducing them to charter and magnet school leaders and students at Maine's State House. These unique types of public schools are needed to help local district schools with the immense task of addressing the diverse individual needs of every single student. Maine's nine charter and two magnet schools offer families, statewide, opportunities to select a school that cultivates their child's unique potential."

This event is organized by MACS, an organization that seeks to enhance public education by promoting and sustaining high quality charter schools.

As a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort, National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for students, families, and communities around the country. From January 20 through 26, 2019, more than 40,000 independently-planned events will be held in celebration of the Week. For more information, visit www.schoolchoiceweek.com.
