Minister of Families, Children and Social Development launches call for applications for the National Advisory Council on Poverty


GATINEAU, QC, Dec. 18, 2018 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is focused on growth that benefits all Canadians and on investments that help grow the middle class and reduce poverty. As part of Canada's First Poverty Reduction Strategy, the Honourable Jean?Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, launched today the call for applications for a National Advisory Council on Poverty.

This ministerial Advisory Council will be appointed through an open, transparent and merit-based selection process with a mandate to:

The Minister is seeking applications from diverse and talented Canadians to join the Advisory Council. To support children's well-being and ensure that poverty is addressed early in life, the National Advisory Council on Poverty will include a member with particular responsibilities for children's issues. The member responsible for children's issues will ensure that children's interests are taken into consideration as the Council carries out its functions. Led by a full-time Chairperson, the Advisory Council will also include members who have knowledge and experience of poverty-related issues, and people who have lived experienced or are currently living in poverty.

Indigenous Peoples, women, persons with disabilities, visible minorities and from other vulnerable groups are encouraged to apply to become a member of the Advisory Council.

Interested individuals must apply online by January 29, 2019.
