Launched in 2014, Glose is the first digital reading solution that makes reading social and collaborative on all screens (smartphones, tablets, computers). The company aims to shape the future of reading for a new generation of digital natives. In order to do this, the startup has put the best of digital to the service of reading (social networks, customization, big data, machine learning) and has developed a technology that turns text into an interactive experience.

Glose's flagship app contains more than one million digital books from 800 partnering editors and already counts 600 000 users. Beyond the general public, the app has also been hailed by teachers of all levels, from high schools to universities. "We received enthusiastic emails from teachers who told us they used Glose in class to make reading more engaging to students - thanks to its mobile, social and collaborative features," founder Nicolas Princen explains. "They all asked us to develop a new version of Glose entirely dedicated to education - so that our technology could be used to enable growth in learning."

In 2018, Glose worked hand in hand with teachers to apply its advanced technology to in-school reading. In 2019, the startup will launch Glose Education, an adaptive learning and reading platform that brings the best of digital technology to education : easy access to textual content, creation of reading groups, collaborative reading, personalization, and individual monitoring. Glose has been labelled as an Edtech solution by the French Ministry of Education, and several middle schools, high schools, and universities are already using a beta version of the app to empower students to read, improve their literacy level, and stimulate their interest in books.

The ?3 million funding round boasts VC funds like OneRagTime, Expon Capital, Kima Ventures, BPI France, and business angels including Sébastien Breteau (The Breteau Foundation), Patrick Bertrand (Cegid/Holnest), ans Julien Codorniou (Facebook).

"We launched Glose with the ambition of creating the reading experience of tomorrow in tune with the practices of a new generation. Our use of machine learning and natural language processing makes this possible, with unique features that create measurable improvements in reading. Our core belief is that improving the way we read will have a positive impact on the way we learn, think, and communicate. We are thrilled to be working alongside teachers of all disciplines and levels, from small middle schools to Harvard University. We want to contribute to the future of education at a time where the needs for educational content and infrastructure are booming, with a projected 3 billion students in the world by 2025."
