RBC Challenge for Centraide of Greater Montreal: Employees and athletes climb Place Ville Marie and raise $325,000 to bring down poverty

MONTREAL, Nov. 21, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, 500 enthusiastic and energetic corporate employees went head to head with 10 professional athletes and Olympic medallists for the 21st RBC Challenge for Centraide of Greater Montreal, a relay race up the steps of Place Ville Marie.

The teams of 10 people taking part in this edge-of-your-seat sports challenge had two goals: raise as much money as possible to fight poverty and climb the building's 1,000 steps in record time.

Organized in collaboration with Place Ville Marie, this unique challenge raised $ 325,000 in donations and sponsorships, or $15,000 more than last year. This money has been given to Centraide of Greater Montreal, whose campaign runs until the end of December.

The team of professional athletes who participated in the challenge included Joelle Bekhazi (waterpolo), Lizanne Murphy (basketball), Marie-Philip Poulin (hockey), Sandrine Mainville (swimming), Lex Albrecht (cycling), Caroline Ouellette (hockey), Jacqueline Simoneau (synchronized swimming), Antoine Valois-Fortier (judo), Dori Yeats (wrestling), and Joseph Polossifakis (fencing).

The record of 2 minutes, 38 seconds to the top of the building was not beaten, as the best time was posted by the team of employees (athletes), who climbed all 41 floors in 3 minutes, 12 seconds.
