True Patriot Love Foundation Toronto Tribute Gala raises over $1.3 million for Canadian military and Veteran families

TORONTO, Nov. 9, 2018 /CNW/ - On November 8, 2018, the True Patriot Love Foundation's 10th annual Toronto Tribute Gala was held to honour military and Veteran families. True Patriot Love Foundation is a national charity dedicated to providing essential support and resources to Canadian military members, Veterans and their families. The Gala, which is the largest celebration in support of military and Veteran families in Canada, was attended by close to 1,000 business and community leaders, distinguished military representatives and other dignitaries, and raised over $1.3 million. The funds raised will support hundreds of local programs across the country to help military and Veteran families with the challenges associated with military service.

"We are also thrilled to present the 2018 Patriot Award to George Cope for his leadership and significant contribution to supporting Canada's military community, particularly for helping to increase access to mental health care supports and services for members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans and their families."

Established in 2015, the Patriot Award is an annual award in recognition of an individual or an organization who has made an outstanding philanthropic contribution to the resilience and wellbeing of the military community and has shown exceptional efforts in raising funds and awareness for members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans and their families.

"On behalf of the Bell Let's Talk team, I am honoured to accept the 2018 Patriot Award in recognition of the great partnership between the True Patriot Love Foundation and our mental health initiative," said Mr. Cope. "Together with True Patriot Love, we are committed to supporting the mental health of the military community through the Bell True Patriot Love Fund, which enables military service people, Veterans and their families to access mental health services in their own communities."

During the Gala, Mr. Cope announced this year's recipients of the Bell True Patriot Love Fund grants. The $2 million, multi-year initiative supports community mental health programs delivered through Military Family Resource Centres and other groups in communities across Canada to support serving military members, Veterans and their families. Since the launch of the Fund in 2013, 89 grants have been distributed.
