The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, today announced the appointment of five members to the Social Security Tribunal of Canada.
The Tribunal has the mandate to hear and make decisions on appeals of reconsideration decisions that were made by the Canada Employment Insurance Commission. The Tribunal renders fair and impartial decisions on appeals regarding the Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security and Employment Insurance (EI) claims for benefits.
The new members of the EI section of the Tribunal's General Division are:
Christianna Scott ? Full-time appointment, three years
Gregory Walton ? Part-time appointment, two years
Mark Leonard ? Part-time appointment, two years
The reappointed members of the EI section of the Tribunal's General Division are:
Maria Marchese ? Part-time reappointment, two years
Paul Dusome ? Part-time reappointment, two years
These appointments are part of the rigorous new approach to Governor in Council appointments. The approach uses open, transparent and merit-based selection processes to support ministers in making appointment recommendations for positions within their portfolio that strive for gender parity and reflect Canada's diversity.

The Social Security Tribunal began its operations on April 1, 2013.
The Social Security Tribunal is made up of two levels of appeal. The first level is the General Division, which contains an Employment Insurance Section and an Income Security Section for Employment Insurance and Canada Pension Plan/Old Age Security appeals, respectively. The second level is the Appeal Division.
Full-time members are appointed for terms up to five years and part-time members for up to two years.
