Canadian Tire and Kidde Canada Join Forces to Raise Awareness of Carbon Monoxide (CO)

The new Detect to Protect campaign helps Canadians stay informed about a dangerous pollutant with giveaways, in-store events, and discounts on CO alarms.

TORONTO, Oct. 9, 2018 /CNW/ - October 9^th marks the launch of Detect to Protect: a collaboration between Canadian Tire, Kidde Canada, and Scout Environmental (with support from Health Canada) that brings much-needed public awareness to carbon monoxide?an odourless, colourless, tasteless gas that leads to more than 300 deaths each year in Canada, all of which are preventable.

Throughout November, all Canadian Tire stores across the country will be offering discounts on CO alarms (check weekly flyers for specific product sale prices). Additionally, Detect to Protect Event Ambassadors will be providing tips on CO prevention in select Canadian Tire locations?as well as offering customers a chance to win prizes via DetectToProtect.ca.

CO is released from fuel-burning appliances, engines, and cigarette smoke, and can build up in any enclosed space?a home, cottage, office, garage, or tent. Exposure to low levels can result in headaches, fatigue, nausea, and flu-like symptoms. High levels can lead to confusion, fast heart rate, convulsions, and death. Children, seniors, pregnant women, and people with pre-existing health conditions can experience symptoms more quickly and severely.

That's why having at least one working CO alarm in your home is vital?and may be the law in your region. The Detect to Protect campaign reminds Canadians about the importance of proper testing, maintenance, and understanding of CO alarms, as well as how to prevent exposure, maintain appliances, and what to do when a CO alarm sounds.
