WASHINGTON, July 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA) President and CEO Mark Merritt released the following statement on S. 2554, the Patient Right to Know Drug Prices Act, scheduled to be marked up tomorrow in the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP):

"PCMA strongly supports S. 2554, legislation that will ensure America's patients always pay the lowest cost for their medications at the pharmacy counter, whether it's the cash price or the copay.

Fortunately, this legislation aligns with standard practice used by pharmacy benefit managers in the marketplace.

We appreciate the HELP Committee's prompt action to consider advancing S. 2554, and applaud Senators Susan Collins (R-ME), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), and John Barrasso (R-WY), for their leadership on this issue."

PCMA is the national association representing America's pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). PBMs administer prescription drug plans for more than 266 million Americans who have health insurance from a variety of sponsors including: commercial health plans, self-insured employer plans, union plans, Medicare Part D plans, the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP), state government employee plans, Medicaid plans, and others.
