Nestle Marks 150th Anniversary With Commitments to Creating Shared Value in Canadian Society

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 13, 2016) - Celebrating its 150th anniversary, Nestle in Canada is proud to launch its 2015 Creating Shared Value report (CSV), which highlights how Nestle works hard to enhance the lives of Canadians and its long-term goals of improving its impact on the communities in which it operates. The report examines Nestle's commitments to improving the lives of Canadians by focusing on the company's action plans in the areas of nutrition, health & wellness, environmental sustainability and social impact.

"We are proud to celebrate our 150th anniversary as it not only demonstrates the dedication of our people and the strength of our products and brands, it's also a confirmation of our vision of a sustainable business," said Shelley Martin, President and CEO, Nestle Canada. "At Nestle, we believe that to be successful in the long-run we must create shared value not only for ourselves, but also for society, at every step of the value chain. We are committed to creating a positive impact through our operations and products - from the farmers who supply our ingredients, to our employees, consumers and the communities where we operate."

Nestle is invested in Canadians and is dedicated to continuously improving its products, the company and Canadians' lives. Added Martin:"We have set ambitious goals for ourselves which not only concern our business results, but how we intend to achieve them."

Environmental Sustainability

Nestle's dedication to improving the environmental sustainability of its operations has always been a focus and is a perpetually growing priority. Since 2010, Nestle has significantly reduced its environmental footprint and has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 10 per cent. As of 2015, Nestle has achieved zero waste-to-landfill in three Ontario-based factories: its ice cream factory in London, its chocolate factory in Toronto, and its foodservice factory in Trenton. Nestle is continuing to focus on its environmental footprint and is committed to protecting the future of the planet by:
-- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 35 per cent by 2020
-- Reducing water usage in all its operations by 35 per cent by 2020
-- Achieving zero waste for disposal within its factories by 2020

Nutrition, Health & Wellness

As a food and beverage leader, Nestle recognizes the importance of nutrition in Canadians' lives. In fact, nutrition is at the heart of everything the company does. By the end of 2014, Nestle Canada achieved its commitment to ensure that all children's products met its Nutrition Foundation criteria - a global set of nutrition criteria based on leading health organizations' recommendations. Looking forward, Nestle in Canada is committed to:
-- Continuing to improve the nutritional profile of its products by
reducing the amount of sodium, sugar, and saturated fat by 10 per cent
    by the end of 2016
-- Ensuring clear guidance and communication on all packaging - by the end
of 2016, 100 per cent of all Nestle Canada products will display daily
guideline amounts for calories on front-of-pack, to help Canadians make
    informed food choices
-- Contributing to Canada's understanding of dietary patterns

Social Impact

As a business operating in Canada for over 95 years, Nestle is dedicated to creating value in the communities in which it operates. Through its products and actions, Nestle is committed to creating jobs, supporting local businesses and investing in its operations to ensure long-term business growth. Nestle's renewed commitments include:
-- Offering 5,000 young Canadians the opportunity to develop their
professional skills, expand their network and increase their
employability by 2018 through Nestle's Youth Initiative
-- Continuing to work with the best Canadian suppliers to support local
businesses and farmers and invest in operations to ensure long-term
    business growth and sustainability
-- Providing long-term community support and partnership
