Obesity Action Coalition Marks 20 Years of Advocacy, Awareness, Education and Support

TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) is proud to celebrate its 20th Anniversary, marking two decades of empowering individuals affected by the disease of obesity through advocacy, awareness, education and support. Founded in 2005 by a small group of passionate advocates, OAC has grown into a national nonprofit with more than 85,000 members working to eliminate weight stigma, improve access to care and create a better world for people affected by obesity.

As OAC reflects on 20 years of impact, it is also looking ahead, inviting individuals to get involved and help build the world it envisions. This year, OAC aims to grow its Community by 20,000 members to strengthen its collective voice and expand access to trusted resources and support. Membership is free, and individuals affected by obesity, loved ones, healthcare providers and supporters are encouraged to join and explore OAC's offerings.

Additionally, OAC is calling on its Community to donate $20 in honor of 20 years. Contributions will help sustain OAC's mission as it looks to the future, funding crucial initiatives that provide education, fight stigma and advocate for better care.

"Our 20th Anniversary is a celebration of how far we've come and the progress we've made, but also a reminder of the work ahead," said Joe Nadglowski, OAC President and CEO. "No other group represents the voice of people affected by obesity like the OAC."

OAC will roll out special initiatives throughout the year to engage and inspire its Community, including an anniversary-themed creative contest, a national step challenge and expanded advocacy opportunities. Activities will continue all year, with a special in-person celebration in July 2025 at OAC's Your Weight Matters National Convention in Washington, DC. OAC will also launch Thrive Together, a new program supporting youth and families affected by obesity, with 20 families invited to the Convention.
