Altium Packaging Reaches 2 Billion Milestone in Dura-Lite Bottle Sales

Altium Packaging, one of the nation's largest plastic packaging manufacturers has sold more than two billion Dura-Lite® bottles, saving 26.4 million pounds of high-density polyethylene (HDPE).

ATLANTA, June 27, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Altium Packaging, one of the nation's largest plastic packaging manufacturers, announced today that they have sold more than two billion Dura-Lite® bottles, saving 26.4 million pounds of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). First developed by Altium in 2015, Dura-Lite bottles contain 10 percent less mass than conventional plastic gallon bottles, reducing plastic resin usage by 5-20 percent, while improving product strength and durability.

"We are thrilled with this milestone," said Joe Palmer, Technical Fellow, Altium Packaging. "The amount of resin saved by the use of our Dura-Lite bottles is more than 714,000 cubic feet. That's enough to cover a football field more than 12 feet deep in plastic pellets. That's a significant impact on our environment and our sustainability efforts."

Sustainability is deeply woven into Altium's value proposition. Their goal has always been to actively seek ways to find the overlap between sustainability and value, implementing cost savings for customers and the company, while reducing environmental impact. With Dura-Lite, Altium has been able to do both.

"Sustainability has always been one of our core values in every facet of our business. When we first started developing the Dura-Lite product we knew we wanted something that decreased resin, but also met the needs of our customers," said Palmer. "Once we got to the point with the conventional bottle that we couldn't make it any lighter, we had to be innovative and do something the industry hadn't seen before."

In addition to reducing mass and resin usage, Dura-Lite designs fit conventional supply chains, shelving and refrigerator doors without any needed corrections or changes. Altium has also been able to expand on the innovation. What was initially one design, is now deployed in dozens of other designs on canisters, large-format bottles, half gallon bottles, and more. Altium is continuing to push the boundaries of packaging design and sustainability, including incorporating different raw materials, to remain on the forefront of packaging innovation.
