/R E P E A T -- Info-picket/rally: 14 layoffs at Renfrew County Family and Children's Services/


PEMBROKE, ON, May 25, 2022  /CNW/ - An information picket and rally will take place May 26 to protest the issuing of layoff notices to 14 staff working in child protection with Family and Children's Services of Renfrew County. The affected staff belong to OPSEU/SEFPO Local 459.

Guest speakers will include Renfrew District Labour Council President Michael Wright, Ottawa and District Labour Council President Sean McKenny and Michele Thorn, president of Local 454.

"The loss of these positions will significantly erode access to services for families already experiencing varying levels of social marginalization across Renfrew County," said Nicole Dennison, President of Local 459. "If these reckless cuts are made, families are going to suffer and children will be put at serious risk."
