NORRIS, Tenn., May 19, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Norris Lake Project team hosted three volunteer work days, one each in March, April, and May 7, 2022 to pick up debris from the shorelines of Norris Lake during the annual 5-County Lake Clean-up. Two hundred and fifty two volunteers rolled up their sleeves to bag trash and remove large items that are not only unsightly, but create hazards for recreational boaters and fishermen.

Participating marinas included Beach Island Resort Marina, Blue Springs Dock, Cedar Grove Marina, Flat Hollow Marina, Hickory Star Marina, Indian Springs Marina, and Sequoyah Marina. Special thanks to Anderson County Solid Waste, Campbell County Solid Waste, Union County Solid Waste, and TVA for their support.

The Norris Lake Project, a 501c3 non-profit, schedules events semi-annually to steward the lake. Members of the all-volunteer board include Stephanie Wells- Anderson County Tourism, Keith Montgomery- Big Ridge State Park, Veronica Greer- Norris Dam State Park, Glennis Monday- Campbell County Litter Officer, Keisha Howard- Campbell County Government, Anna Beth Walker- Claiborne County Government, Brian Ross- TVA, and Julie Graham, TRV Stewardship Council.

"The Norris Lake Project Team thanks all of the volunteers and homeowner associations that continue to participate each year," said spokesperson, Julie Graham. "We cannot do this work without their assistance, our marina partners, and TVA's support."

The Norris Lake Project (NLP) organized in 2011 with a mission to preserve the beauty and conserve the natural resources of the Norris Lake Watershed area for the benefit of the residents and visitors to the area, while assisting the five local governments in combatting the deterioration of these natural resources in the surrounding communities. Norris Lake is part of the larger Tennessee River system which includes more that 40,000 square miles of watershed. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) supports local grassroots initiatives such as the Norris Lake Project with resources that are used for stewardship activities of the lake and public lands. The Board, meets monthly to discuss lake issues that impact the watershed.

The next lake clean-up is scheduled for September 17, 2022. To learn more, link.
