On this upcoming Memorial Day, Semper Cares Initiative Will Award Free Solar Panels to Decorated Veteran

The Semper Cares Initiative by Semper Solaris has chosen Douglas Berry as their Project Oscar recipient. This deserving veteran will receive a free whole-home solar panel system at no cost to him.

OCEANSIDE, Calif., May 5, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- After being made aware of Douglas' story, Semper Solaris has chosen the local San Diegan as the 2022 Semper Cares Initiative recipient for this upcoming Memorial Day event. He will be receiving solar panels free of cost, drastically reducing his electricity bill for life.

You could say military service runs in Douglas E. Berry's blood. Douglas' grandfather bravely served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and his father served the USMC for 30 years from 1965 to 1995. Though for Douglas, it wasn't about following in his forefather's footsteps, but about making his own mark on the world. So at 18 years old, Douglas enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, choosing the Marines not just because of his family legacy, but because of USMC's reputation. A reputation for toughness, grit, and resilience, and for forging some of the most formidable individuals in military history.

Douglas' time in the Marine Corps took him many places, from Camp Lejeune in NC where he would meet his future wife Megan, to serving during both Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1990, and to Kosovo in 1999. Though as with most, Doug's life would radically change on September 11th, 2001. Douglas served valiantly in both OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) I and II and led Marines into combat at the Battle of Fallujah. Fallujah being widely regarded as a turning point in the Iraq War and as one of the largest urban combat engagements for the U.S. Military since the Battle of Hu? City in Vietnam in 1968.

"What I can say about it -(Fallujah)- is that it definitely showed the spirit of the American fighting man...it showed the spirit and the willpower of the United States Marines and I was glad I was with them."

Sergeant Major Berry is well decorated with his personal awards ranging from: The Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon. As well as many others.

Douglas was nominated for the Semper Cares Initiative by close friend and fellow service member Ian Clark. Ian and his wife Kelly, both former Semper Solaris customers, knew Doug was the perfect nominee for Semper Cares. "To this day they both (Doug and Megan) continue to make sure we're taken care of...and would always reach out to help whenever we needed it. That is who they are and that was why we nominated them."
