Learn about one artist's ongoing process of accepting and adjusting to physical loss from PPS in the memoir

NATCHEZ, Miss., Jan. 20, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Sharon White Richardson reveals how she met challenges to her right-handed painting abilities as post-polio syndrome diminished her muscle strength and control in her new memoir, "Painting Light in Polio's Shadow: One Artist's Struggles" (published by Archway Publishing).

Several decades after Richardson recovered from paralytic polio, she experienced issues from post-polio syndrome (PPS) ? widespread new muscle weakness, loss of control, and pain mainly in her arms, especially her right one. PPS forced Richardson to accept losing the use of her right arm and adjust by becoming left-handed. Moreover, the author had to learn to paint left-handed so she could pursue her passion and continue a 30-year painting career.

"Accepting and adjusting to physical loss is difficult, whether it's from a stroke, an injury, long COVID from coronavirus disease, or other causes," Richardson says. "I want readers to use my ideas or spark their own from mine to find strategies for effective problem-solving so they can continue pursuing their passion."
