Registration for ASC22 Student Supercomputer Challenge Now Open

Registration for the ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge 2022 (ASC22) is underway. Undergraduates from around the globe can register on the ASC official website (http://www.asc-events.net/ASC22/). The first briefing session for ASC22 will be held virtually at the International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage, and Analysis 2021 (SC21) on November 16th, 11 am CST. The session will be hosted by Vangel Bojaxhi, Executive Director of ASC, who will introduce the competition system, schedule, tasks, etc.

ASC22 will be split into three phases. The first phase is team organization and registration from November 2021 to January 2022. Undergraduates should register in groups of five with one advisor. The second phase is a preliminary competition where teams submit their proposals from January to March 2022. The third phase, for selected teams, is the final competition to be held in April or May 2022. Teams from Mainland China will participate in the finals onsite, with other teams participating virtually. Teams will be tasked with optimizing HPL & HPCG benchmarks and designated AI & HPC applications. Their results will be presented in English to a panel of judges who will be awarding various prizes including the Champion, Silver Prize, e Prize, and the Highest LINPACK.

The ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge is the world's largest student supercomputing competition. To this date, over 10,000 undergraduates have participated. ASC20-21 saw the entrance of 300 teams with the Top21 teams from Mainland China participating onsite at SUSTech, and the Top7 outside of Mainland China participating virtually using the AWS cloud computing platform. Teams were tasked with optimizing cutting-edge science and engineering applications including HPL & HPCG benchmarks, language exam, pulsar search, quantum computing simulation, VENAS (New Coronavirus Evolution Anticipation) and a mystery application ? MPAS-A (Model for Prediction Across Scales).
