In Honor of the 245th Birthday of the United States Marine Corps & Veterans Day, Retired U.S. Marine Releases New Book of Notable Quotes for the U.S. Marine Corps

VALRICO, Fla., Oct. 25, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As the nation approaches the 245th birthday of the United States Marine Corps on Nov. 10 as well as Veterans Day on Nov. 11, Lt Col Sidney Atwater, US Marine Corps (Ret), who had a very decorated and accomplished career with the U.S. Marine Corps, has released his debut book, "By, For, and About Marines: A book of notable quotes of the U.S. Marine Corps." After retiring from active duty in 1998, LtCol. Atwater dedicated time to pursue his labor of love, collecting quotes about Marines. As he researched the context, history, and creators behind the quotes, he decided to put his collection into book form for future, past and current Marines to enjoy.

His new book presents an inspiring and diverse collection of quotes written by, written for, and written about Marines. Now as a military Veteran, LtCol. Atwater hopes all Marines, especially Lance Corporals and recent Marine graduates, find encouragement from his book through the motivational words of their past Marine brothers and sisters.

LtCol. Atwater's labor of love began in 1979 while he was on a one-year unaccompanied tour in Okinawa, Japan and continued through the 1980s and into 1990 including his 1991 deployment in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He continued to collect quotes during his professional development and readings after he retired from active duty in 1998. His collection was at first intended to be nothing more than a "Uooo Rahh" motivational mechanism that he would share freely with his fellow Marines and others interested in the Corps. However, he decided to provide further context for the quotes and put them in book form to provide a comprehensive collection for future, past and current Marines to enjoy.

"My goal is to see this book in every Marine Corps Exchange so young Lance Corporals can learn a bit more about their beloved Corps," said LtCol. Atwater.

LtCol. Atwater notes that this is not a history book, but a book based on history about people who happened to be Marines. Broken out into bite-sized stories, the book makes for a great gift for recent Marine graduates as well as a wonderful read for any veteran this Veterans Day.
