37th Annual UCLA Extension Tax Controversy Institute Tackles Post-COVID IRS Examination, FBAR, and Virtual Currency


The Annual Tax Controversy Institute on Thursday, October 21, 2021, presents the most current legal issues in tax audits and tax litigation. The conference is known for convening legal experts, tax practitioners, IRS officials, and other professionals, in a dialogue on tax controversies involving tax disputes between tax collection entities, such as the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Scheduled to give the keynote address is Charles P. Rettig, the current and 49th Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and who presides over the nation's tax system that collects approximately $3.4 trillion in tax revenue each year.

Every year, the Tax Controversy Institute presents the Bruce I. Hochman Award which recognizes an individual who demonstrates outstanding proficiency in the field of tax law and best exemplifies the principles that personified Bruce I. Hochman. Bruce Hochman was a leading attorney for over 40 years specializing in civil and criminal tax law litigation and was a generous philanthropist and dynamic leader of various civic organizations. The year's Bruce I. Hochman Awardee is the Honorable Juan F. Vasquez, United States Tax Court with introduction and presentation of the award by Jonathan Kalinski & Nathan Hochman.

The virtual presentation of the Tax Controversy Institute is hosted by the Business, Management, and Legal Programs at UCLA Extension, which offers courses and certificates in accounting, taxation, internal audit, business and management, finance and investments, legal programs and leadership.
