Ridge Security Hosts First Capture the Flag (CTF) Competition at ROOTCON 15

Ridge Security, cutting-edge pen-testing solution provider, sponsored a Capture the Flag (CTF) at the annual ROOTCON 15 with eighteen teams participating and testing out their knowledge and skills in seven rounds of Vulnerability Exploitation challenges. ROOTCON brings together a global community of security experts, practitioners, and business developers with the aim of making the digital world a safer place.

The winning team, THEOS Offense, completed all seven challenges, which progressively became more difficult through the final exploitations. Based on the team's aggregate skills and capabilities to adapt and learn through the stages, the results were both exciting and educational. The winning team solved all seven vulnerability exploitation challenges, while the second place was a resolution of six out of the total seven.

"It was thrilling to watch the teams work through the challenges," said Lydia Zhang, Co-founder and President of Ridge Security. "The idea behind the design for the challenges was to offer real-world vulnerabilities and hands-on experience in how to address tough cybersecurity issues using an automated pen testing solution that does the groundwork for the admin, and then allows for human decision making. Gamifying the process added to the fun factor!"

The CTF also allowed the participants to familiarize themselves with RidgeBot, RidgeSecurity's automated pen testing solution, where they could progressively be introduced to more challenging scenarios accessing different features within RidgeBot.

The winning team, consisting of participants Tipsy Hacker, ro0taddict, and 1nv0k3r, was interviewed after the contest: "We loved the automatic scanners in RidgeBot, and the ability to automate the exploitation process and help us replace multiple disparate tools with one. The reporting and documentation were also effective in helping us home in on the vulnerability to be able to resolve it in a timely manner."
