Ob Hospitalist Group Achieves Major Milestones Supporting Women and Newborns' Health During 15th Anniversary

Ob Hospitalist Group (OBHG), the nation's largest and only dedicated provider of customized obstetric (OB) hospitalist programs, is celebrating several major milestones that have occurred in recent months and the 15-year anniversary of the company. Since the company was founded in October 2006, OBHG clinicians have surpassed 3,000,000 patient encounters, including 1,000,000 high-risk encounters and performed over 250,000 deliveries.

"2021 is a milestone year for OBHG," said Lenny Castiglione, OBHG CEO. "Reaching these milestones is so impressive and I'm incredibly proud of the continued dedication of our clinicians and support team. Our success all comes back to a commitment to our mission. OBHG clinicians play such a vital role in caring for pregnant patients and their families, and in supporting private practice obstetricians. When our teams are in place to respond to obstetrical emergencies, lives are saved, and women and babies are safer. The future is bright for OBHG with the increasing demand for our services and OB hospitalist programs. I am looking forward to seeing what the next 15 years will bring!"

OBHG was founded by OB/GYN Chris Swain, MD, who created the nation's first Obstetrics Emergency Department (OBED). Troubled that pregnant women that visited the hospital emergency department were transferred to the labor and delivery unit and seen by a nurse rather than a physician, Dr. Swain recognized the critical need and potential for a 24/7 OBED. Based on the internal medicine hospitalist model, the OBED was designed to serve not only laboring women, but all pregnant patients presenting with an emergency condition at any stage and ensure that a dedicated OB-trained physician was onsite. Today, Dr. Swain's solution has evolved into the standard of care with hundreds of U.S. hospitals adopting OB hospitalist programs and employing the original OBED architecture.

Over the past 15 years, OBHG has grown from a single program to the nation's largest and only dedicated OB hospitalist provider, with over 200 hospital partners in 34 states. The company's original commitment that every expectant mother presenting to labor and delivery would receive care from an experienced physician has only further strengthened since its inception, with now more than 1,100 OBHG clinicians on the front lines 24/7 helping to elevate the quality and safety of women's healthcare. The company was recently recognized on the Inc. 5000 list for a ninth consecutive year as one of the fastest growing companies in the nation, and received an industry-leading Net Promoter Score of 82 for best-in-class customer service.
