Identity Defined Security Alliance Announces #BeIdentitySmart Week October 25-29, 2021

The Identity Defined Security Alliance (IDSA), a nonprofit that provides vendor-neutral education and resources to help organizations reduce the risk of a breach by combining identity and security strategies, today announced #BeIdentitySmart Week 2021, an informational event which will take place during Cybersecurity Awareness Month, October 25-29, 2021.

What is #BeIdentitySmart Week?

The mission of #BeIdentitySmart Week is to educate business leaders and IT decision makers on the importance of identity management and share best practices for implementing identity-centric security strategies. #BeIdentitySmart Week is held in conjunction with the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) and is a companion event to Identity Management Day, held the second Tuesday in April. With the week-long format, each day of #BeIdentitySmart Week will feature a specific identity-security related theme, highlighting guidance on security related outcomes and best practices from experts on popular topics.

On Thursday, the IDSA will also host a panel session titled, "What Does it Mean to #BeIdentitySmart?" featuring:

"IDSA research shows that 79% of organizations have experienced an identity-related security breach in the last two years, and 93% believe they might have prevented or minimized security breaches by using identity-related security outcomes," said Julie Smith, Executive Director of the IDSA. "The goal of #BeIdentitySmart Week is to help educate organizations and provide them with tools to put identity at the center of their security strategies, including frameworks, best practices, and security outcomes to mitigate risk of an identity-related security breach."

"Proper identity management is a central component in cybersecurity and digital privacy hygiene," said Lisa Plaggemier, Interim Executive Director of the National Cyber Security Alliance. "During Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we look forward to driving visibility of the importance of identity management and the easy tips that people can use to make sure their identities are safe online."
