Media Advisory - CMEC to Release Latest Report on the Performance of Canadian Grade 8 Students in Math, Reading, and Science
TORONTO, Oct. 4, 2021 /CNW/ - The Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC), will be presenting results from its latest assessment of the performance of Canadian Grade 8 students (Secondary II in Quebec) on October 12, 2021.
The Pan-Canadian Assessment Program (PCAP) provides Canada with a report card in three core subjects: mathematics, reading, and science. PCAP 2019 tested approximately 30,000 students from close to 1,600 schools across the country. Mathematics was the major focus of PCAP 2019.
Of particular interest to media:
- PCAP and its predecessor, the School Achievement Indicators Program (SAIP), have been providing statistically valid, comparable data on student performance in Canada for close to a quarter century.
- PCAP 2019 offers a broadly based, pan-Canadian portrait of student achievement, as well as results by province, by gender, and by official language.
- PCAP is a cyclical assessment, first administered in 2007 and subsequently in 2010, 2013, and 2016. With PCAP 2019, results obtained over time for student performance in all three subject areas will be reported.
- PCAP was developed to complement key international assessments, such as OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), to maximize testing efficiency and enable validation of our results at the international level.
