Literacy Platform Simbi Adopts the Annual Copyright License for Curriculum & Instruction From CCC

CCC, a leader in advancing copyright, accelerating knowledge, and powering innovation, announces Simbi, the Canada-based reading platform for kids, has adopted the Annual Copyright License for Curriculum & Instruction to streamline their permissions process in using copyrighted content.

The Annual Copyright License for Curriculum & Instruction eases the burden of obtaining one-off permissions, providing a broad repertory of print or digital rights that enable the reuse and distribution of excerpts of high-quality content in curriculum and instructional materials, educational technology (ed tech) applications, and online platforms such as learning management systems. This new solution is designed to address the diverse licensing needs of ed tech providers, core and supplemental curriculum developers, and custom publishing companies, as well as U.S. State Departments of Education and K-12 school districts.

Publishers participating in the license include ABDO, the Associated Press, Bearport Publishing Company, Berrett-Koehler Publishers, Boyds Mill Press, Chicago Review Press, Children's Art Foundation, Crabtree Publishing Company, Free Spirit Publishing, Fun for Kidz Magazine, History Today Ltd., Jump!, Just Us Books, McClatchy Newspapers, National Public Radio, Nomad Press, Portage & Main Press Limited, Rosen Publishing, Rowman & Littlefield Publishing, Skipping Stones, Smithsonian Books, Tribune Content Agency, and University of New Mexico. Additional publishers are being added every week.

CCC is hosting a 30-minute webcast on 14 September at 1:00 pm EDT, "How One K-12 Organization Streamlined its Permissions Process," featuring Emma House, Simbi's Head of Publisher Relations. Participants will learn how the Annual Copyright License for Curriculum & Instruction helps remove copyright barriers for U.S. schools, education technology companies, custom publishers, and curriculum developers who need to incorporate excerpts of contemporary copyrighted content from leading book, magazine, and news publishers into curriculum materials.

"Simbi is on a mission to make reading meaningful to students around the globe. We enable readers to read along and read aloud to a growing library which includes the world's largest repository of culturally diverse narrator accents. This requires us to discover and get permission to reuse content from hundreds of publishers, each of whom has their own set of processes for permissions and payment," said Aaron Friedland, CEO & Co-Founder, Simbi. "CCC's Annual Copyright License for Curriculum & Instruction lets us reuse content from dozens of publishers through a single solution, saving considerable time and resources."

"As Simbi empowers people to ?read for good,' we're thrilled to support its mission by simplifying reuse of relevant, timely, diverse, local, and inclusive content in their materials," said Roy Kaufman, Managing Director, Business Development and Government Relations, CCC. "We look forward to Emma sharing her insights on September 14th about how Simbi is using the license."

To assist schools and providers in the academic market navigate the complex world of copyright compliance, CCC recently introduced Copyright Essentials for K-12, an on-demand certificate course for professional development that helps raise awareness of copyright and content use with K-12 school districts in the U.S., education technology companies, curriculum developers, and custom publishers.
