LA JOLLA, Calif., July 13, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Michael and Madeleine Oldstone explore the mysteries of Ebola as a guide to understand poor preparedness, civil unrest and development of successful therapies to fight COVID-19 in their new book "Ebola's Evolution: Turning Despair to Deliverance: A Road Map for COVID-19" (published by Archway Publishing).
The authors trace the origin of the disease, its rapid spread through Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, the collapse of economies, and the development of anti-viral therapies against Ebola. The Oldstones compare the outbreaks of one of the world's deadliest viruses with today's struggle to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic. The book includes selected vignettes of doctors, nurses and scientists who were overwhelmed and fought with limited resources. The authors offer insights into specific steps that must be taken to ensure that virus outbreaks like Ebola and COVID-19 are controlled in the future.
Their book should be helpful for a wide range of people including "lay persons interested in current events, undergraduate and graduate students at colleges and universities. Doctors and scientists interested in infectious diseases, virology, immunology, politics of infectious disease, and the development, trials, and use of anti-viral therapies."
