The Foundation for Government Accountability Applauds Supreme Court's Ruling in Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee

NAPLES, Fla., July 1, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The United States Supreme Court upheld Arizona's efforts to safeguard its elections in a 6-3 vote today, a major victory as states work to restore voters' trust in the democratic process. The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) applauds this decision.

The case specifically evaluated the legality of two Arizona election reforms that the Democratic National Committee unsubstantially claims infringe on Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The reforms under question aim to implement a precinct-centered voting process and ban third parties from collecting absentee ballots. Both are intended to make it easy to vote, but harder to cheat?regardless of the voter's background.

"The unfounded belief that these two laws infringe on Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 is a convenient argument that the Democratic National Committee is making to misguide all American voters," said Chase Martin, Legal Affairs Director at FGA. "Arizona legislators have worked tirelessly to offer many voting opportunities to all eligible and registered voters. While these laws look to further secure ballots, they in no way attempt to give minorities less opportunities to vote than non-minorities."

The Foundation for Government Accountability supports clear, transparent voting procedures and safeguards that restores voters' trust in the electoral process while protecting the voice and vote of all voters.
