The Workers Lab Announces The Innovation Fund 2021 Grant Cycle

The Workers Lab is thrilled to announce that the Innovation Fund 2021 grant cycle is now open. Created with the vision of a society where all workers are safe, healthy, secure, and free, The Workers Lab invests in and promotes the experimentation and learnings of public, private, and nonprofit leaders who are testing new ideas to improve the lives of workers.

Understanding the capital investment required to bring a creative idea to fruition, The Innovation Fund is committed to better resourcing breakthrough ideas about how to transform systems and structures to make all workers safe, healthy, secure, and free. Winning applicants will receive up to $150,000 in funding for their innovation.

In addition to receiving funding to give their new idea a chance to succeed, awardees will receive mentorship, training, and organizational support where The Workers Lab can add value. Applications are now open and submissions are due by 11:59 PM PST on July 12, 2021. Recipients will be announced later this fall. Nearly every type of organization or entity is eligible to apply, from nonprofits and for-profits to public sector entities and co-ops.

"In other fields, financial resources can come from private equity or venture capital; however, those investments aren't typically available for ideas that are designed to solve problems facing workers," said Jeshua John, The Workers Lab Program Manager. "The Workers Lab is changing that. We're inspired by our past innovators and excited to open The Innovation Fund 2021 grant cycle in an effort to deliver transformative and inclusive programming for workers."

Since 2014, the Innovation Fund has invested over $5 million in 78 innovators, addressing immediate and structural problems that exist in often outdated employee systems that simply do not serve the modern worker.

"The promise to give new ideas for workers a chance to succeed and flourish begins with accessibility," said Adrian Haro, Chief Executive Officer of The Workers Lab. "From the workers that we serve to the innovators we resource, creating equitable access to historically under-resourced, marginalized groups is essential and an integral part of everything we do."
