Symetra Named ?Corporate Leader of the Year' by Greater Seattle Business Association

Symetra Life Insurance Company was recognized as the 2020 Corporate Leader of the Year by the Greater Seattle Business Association (GSBA) during the organization's 40th annual Business & Humanitarian Awards, held virtually last night. The annual event honors Puget Sound businesses, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders who demonstrate leadership and success in their business or profession, promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace, visibly support the LGBTQ community, and invest time and resources in community-wide causes.

Established in 1981, GSBA is Washington State's LGBTQ and allied chamber of commerce and is the largest of its kind in North America, representing over 1,400 members.

"During these tumultuous and often dark times, the one thing that has remained constant is the strength and resiliency of our community," said Mark Rosén, acting president & CEO of GSBA. "Throughout 2020, leaders like Symetra pivoted to continue to serve our community during a global pandemic and financial crisis, stood up against systemic racial injustice, and served as an example of what it looks like when businesses ?walk the walk.'"

"Symetra is incredibly proud to receive this acknowledgment from the GSBA, which is all the more meaningful because of our shared commitment to diversity and inclusion, and we're humbled to be counted among a remarkable group of honorees," said Trinity Parker, senior vice president, Marketing Communications & Public Affairs. "At Symetra, we are working to drive transformational change in the communities where we live and work by addressing systemic issues like homelessness, gender inequality and racial injustice. Working with partners like the GSBA, our goal is to help build resilient and robust community support systems with a focus on BIPOC communities, women, and at-risk youth."

In 2020, Symetra launched its Symetra Empowers Communities program focused on reducing barriers for women and at-risk youth; partnered with struggling locally owned restaurants throughout the pandemic to deliver nearly 20,000 Care & Feeding meals to homeless shelters and frontline workers in 12 states; and affirmed its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion by outlining 18 commitments that detail the company's goals to advance racial equity and address racial injustice.
