Sports Camps Canada and Subnation Media Bring Esports Camps To Waterloo Region This March

WATERLOO, Ontario, Jan. 19, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The virtual Explore Waterloo Region esports camps will provide top level instruction to campers between the ages of 12-19, designed to help them improve their gaming abilities, while also building important life skills that extend beyond the game. Coaches are trained through Sports Camps Canada's unique esports coaching certification program, which has been developed in partnership with Logitech, to enhance the educational and competitive experience for each of its campers.

"As we continue to explore ways to deliver and support esports activities and programs within our region, I'm excited for our communities and educational institutions to be the first beneficiaries of the partnership between Sports Camps Canada and Subnation", said Allister Scorgie, Director of Sport Hosting at Explore Waterloo Region. "We're excited to launch these esports camps this spring, and look forward to offering in-person options for visiting campers from across Canada in the future when it's safe to do so."

The 3-day esports camps will be held virtually between March 13-21, 2021 in association with the esports programs at Conestoga College, University of Waterloo, and Wilfrid Laurier University. In-person esports camps are being considered for later in 2021 and beyond.

"We are grateful to be working with the Explore Waterloo team to bring esports camps to the Waterloo Region", says Kye Browning, Director of Esports at US Sports Camps and Sports Camps Canada. "Working with local post-secondary institutions, we plan to build an esports community in the region and provide kids with the opportunity to develop life skills, make friends, and improve their game play."

In 2020, Explore Waterloo Region forged an agreement with Subnation to help support and develop the growth of esports events across the community.

"As the official esports advisors to Explore Waterloo Region, Subnation identified early-on in our market study that hosting esports camps would immediately complement the Waterloo Region's existing reputation for offering world-class training, competitions and entertainment", said Ed Tomasi, Chief Managing Director and Co-Founder of Subnation Media. "Our partnership with Sports Camps Canada comes at the perfect time as we meet this growing demand for access to esports coaching for aspiring gamers, and further develop a healthy and sustainable esports ecosystem for such an innovative host market and destination".
