Build Greensboro Together Announces Fund Raising Drive to Complete Important Parks Projects

Build Greensboro Together is a recently created foundation dedicated to partnering with Greensboro to fund rebuilding and revitalizing some of the city's most important communal and outdoor spaces. The organization's initial fundraising goal of $200,000 will support completion of three key projects at Peeler Community Park, along the Lake Daniel Greenway, and at Heath Park.

"I have visited all 100 counties in North Carolina and I can say that Greensboro is unique in a state filled with wonderful places," says Peter Reichard, Co-Chair of Build Greensboro Together. "I am so pleased to be able to partner with this amazing team to help provide much needed amenities to our community. In difficult times, it's important to step up and ensure we can keep Greensboro a fabulous place to live."

To fulfill its mission, Build Greensboro Together joins forces with the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, Inc. and the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department to guide, prioritize, and facilitate investment. The initial $200,000 will be used to complete planned projects at two much-loved parks and necessary repairs along the famous Greensboro Greenway, all of which have been used even more extensively by Greensboro citizens during the COVID-19 crisis.

"Greensboro, like many cities across the country, is challenged to sustain our amenities due to the impact of natural disasters and the financial crisis brought on by the prolonged COVID epidemic," added Hugh Holston, Co-Chair Build Greensboro Together. "In collaboration with the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department, these initial projects are targeted to revitalize and restore fun, functionality, and safety for the children and families in these impacted communities."

Build Greensboro Together enjoys the broad support of Greensboro's City Council including Council Members Sharon Hightower, Nancy Hoffman, and Dr. Goldie Frinks Wells. The communities they represent, as well as the city as a whole, will enjoy much needed investment in areas that endured the EF2 tornado in 2018 and the flash flooding in 2019. Plus, Greensboro's commitment to outdoor recreation and its award-winning facilities and programming set the city apart as an innovator and leader in the field.
